Does Your Organization’s Hardware Support Windows 11?

Microsoft has claimed that Windows 10 would be their chosen operating system for the foreseeable future, but we can never expect technology to rest on its laurels and grow stagnant. Enter Windows 11, the latest Microsoft operating system. What are the specifications needed to upgrade your business to this new OS, and how can you know when it is time to do so?

There is no immediate rush to upgrade to Windows 11, thankfully—at least, if you have moved to Windows 10 already, there isn’t. Users of Windows 8.1 should start to consider an across-the-board upgrade. 8.1 will be retired as of January 23, 2023, so it’s a great time to start moving away from this operating system.

Windows 11 Hardware Requirements

Windows 11 requires a 1GHz multi-core processor, at least 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of onboard storage. It also requires a display of at least 720p. More specifications for the Windows 11 operating system can be found here

Most modern PCs shouldn’t have any trouble running Windows 11, with most problems likely stemming from the TPM or Secure Boot requirements. You’ll want to download Microsoft’s PC Health Check app, and it will tell you if your PC is compatible, and if not, why. A workstation from 4 or 5 years ago might not be readily compatible.

Even if you suspect that your computer is fine to run Windows 11, we still recommend that you speak with your IT administrator or a technology professional before following through with the upgrade. This will lessen the likelihood of you encountering problems during the process.

Support for Windows 10 is not disappearing anytime soon, but it’s never too early to start thinking about your plan for the upgrade away from it. To get started, reach out to us at 800.618.9844.
